The Beginning
In the late 1950's Charlie Nicholson began displaying a few books at the one-day bible conferences that had recently been convened in the Toronto area. As the work continued and grew Hans Liebmann took on the responsibility from Charlie Nicholson and provided a good selection of books at all the conferences held in Toronto each year. In 1966 Holden Shoop of the Sunbury, PA, was actively involved in reprinting and publishing the writings of early brethren. Mr. Shoop felt the need to make available to a new generation of believers, the recovered truths concerning Christ and His Assembly. It was here that "Believers Bookshelf Inc." derived its name and was born.
The Merger
During these early years both the Canadian and U.S. operations were completely separate; however, that changed in 1967, when Mr. Shoop approached Mr. Liebmann with a proposal to buy his inventory of Believers Bookshelf Inc. Then in 1973 Jake and Helen Redekop began representing Believers Bookshelf Inc., in Canada from their home in Niagara-on-the-Lake, Ontario, Canada.
During this first decade in Canada numerous projects came to fruition being completely funded by the Canadian side of the operation. Books were now being sold both wholesale and retail which in turn required a need for more storage space. As the work grew in Canada additional help was needed. This help came in the form of volunteers offering their time and services to get the work done. Among those who came forward were Hank and Pat Blok of Kingston, Ontario, Canada. In response to the many requests for Bibles and books, they packaged and mailed thousands of parcels to different countries around the globe and into local prisons still doing so today. Another volunteer we would mention was Phil Hall now with the Lord, who discontinued his own Print Shop and worked for Believers Bookshelf Inc., Canadian operations.
Phil was also helping to prepare manuscripts, guiding them through the various stages of the pre-press and printing processes right on through to the completed book. He also attended numerous Christian Booksellers Association conventions where Believers Bookshelf literature was displayed and made available to the book trade.
In 1977, "The Lord Is Near" Daily Meditation book and block were first published again completely funded by the Canadian side of the Believers Bookshelf operation and the book version remains being published here annually. It soon became evident that for us to continue the Bookshelf work in Canada, we needed to register as a separate entity. We incorporated as a registered non-profit charity in 1983, with the ability to issue tax receipts for gifts received towards the work of this newly formed and completely separate entity of Believer's Bookshelf Canada Inc.
The Work Continued
The work continued on in the Redekop home until 1989, when Daniel and Doris Hauber took on the responsibility of day to day work of Believer's Bookshelf Canada Inc. This became a transition year as the whole operation moved out of the Redekop home and into the present leased location in Beamsville, Ontario, Canada. Daniel and Doris Hauber continued on with the publishing, wholesale, retail sales and Free Literature work of these books, as well as going to the various conferences held throughout the year with the books. They continued on in this work until 2000 at which time they felt the need to step aside and let someone else carry on with the increased workload.

In 2000, after much prayer, Rodger Sheets and his wife Joanne, along with their four children; Robert, Sarah, Matthew & Leah, made known their desire to take on the management role at the Bookshelf. Since Rodger was in the printing industry for 15 years, along with his love of books and desire to see souls saved, we believe this was where the Lord would have them. Following that decision, they packed up their belongings there in Cornwall, Ontario and moved to Beamsville, Ontario. With a new manager now in place, Believer's Bookshelf Canada Inc. went through another transition. This transition however, went very smoothly since Daniel Hauber was always available to help when needed.
By 2003, 17,000 copies of the Lord Is Near were being printed doubling in 2005 to 34,000 copies even now to the present date and an additional 12,000 being printed in India in English and the Telegu dialect. We are looking forward to the publication of the French Version. Also, with the increasing volume of letters requesting Bibles and other literature, our free literature work has expanded greatly. This also gave birth to the correspondence courses to better help those who were interested to learn more from the Bible, and to answer the many questions being asked. This work is being handled by Ed and Cornelia Redekop from their home in St. Catharine's, Ontario, Canada.
In 2005 Jonathan Kelly joined the work here at Believer's Bookshelf Canada Inc., as the work was growing and was getting to be much; more than one person could handle. Jonathan left his prior job with an IT customer support company where he helped clients with troubleshooting issues they had with their corporate or personal PC's. He brings with him this knowledge as well his talent in web design to this ministry to be used of the Lord. Jonathan, his wife Loreen and their daughter Ilaina are a welcomed addition to the BBCAN team.
The Future
Believer's Bookshelf Canada Inc. has continued to grow and change over the years; with many more tasks being taken on; with the years ahead being no exception. We as a non-profit organization continue to ask for your prayers and are always looking for ways of making our products available in the most cost effective way possible so as to keep our prices down for those retail and wholesale customers. We are always looking into new medians for this literature to make these more accessible. The revenue from the sale of our books fund the publishing printing and shipping costs of our Free Literature Distribution Ministry which ships books to developing countries around the globe. Please join us in reaching out to a lost world as well as providing spiritual food for the Lord's own people.
We depend upon the Lord to keep Believer's Bookshelf Canada Inc., operating. Your support for Believer's Bookshelf Canada Inc., as directed of the Lord is much needed and appreciated. Please join us in reaching out to a lost world as well as providing spiritual food for the Lord's own people.
Please continue also to pray with us as we endeavor to continue on in the Lord's work at Believer's Bookshelf Canada Inc., until He comes.
