We walk by faith, and not by sight, while in this scene so dark:
The word of God our only light, to guide us to the mark.
Where Christ has gone before us all, to ready us a place;
The Father's house, our heav'nly call, we who are saved by grace.
The journey is a per'lous one, with many snares about:
The devil would us have undone, and fill our hearts with doubt.
But Christ our Lord is there to lead, to glory up above;
Our souls would fully, richly feed, with messages of love.
Though hard may be our earthly path here, all filled with grief and strife;
Our comfort is our Lord so dear, who gave His very life.
That we may by His spirit led, find strength along the way:
And feed upon that living bread, our compass and our stay.
We seek not rest nor peace below, our comfort is from heav'n;
Thus ever would to Jesus go, when by the tempest driv'n.
Our refuge when the foes attack, a fortress in retreat;
He ever would us keep on track, and gently wash our feet.
Soon will this vale of tears be o'er, and we shall be with Him;
Rejoice in peace for evermore, our restless mem'ries dim.
The Master's voice, 'twill lift the heart, as we to Him then fly;
Forever from this world depart, at the archangel's cry.
Thus shall we ever with Him live, in heavenly homes above;
Our hearts then would we fully give, to fathom His great love.
Wherewith He counsel'd long before, all things were ever made;
That we should be for evermore, His bride in what arrayed!
